1. The village depots scheme referred to in paragraphs 3(1), 4 and second part of paragraph 6 above. was discussed yesterday between Mr. Follows, Mr. Bourdillon, Mr. Harding, Mr. Palmer and myself. Mr. Follows explained that the depots would provide convenient collecting centres to which farmers could take their produce and from which it could be picked up by the Vegetable Marketing transport and taken to market. They would similarly provide depot facilities to assist movement of fertiliser in the opposite direction - from the Agricultural Department to the farmer. And in general they wouldbe points of contact between the Agricultural Department and the farmers. (The two Agricultural Officers whom Hong Kong have so long been seeking have at last, quite recently, been secured).

Mr. Harding menti ned that it appeared that Hong Kong had already established one village depot and asked if it was clearly
